Tough road for Raonic at Australian Open

Canada’s Milos Raonic faces a possible quarter-final match against Roger Federer, after the draw was made for the Australian Open. Raonic, ranked 22nd in Melbourne, takes on Slovakia’s Lukas Lacko on Sunday in a first-round match. He also faces a potential semifinal against Novak Djokovic. Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., who cracked the Top 50 last year thanks to beating Rafael Nadal, makes his Australian Open debut when he takes on Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece. Federer will play Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia. Top-ranked Nadal will open against Victor Estrella Burgos. On the women’s side, top-ranked Simona Halep opens against Australian wild card Destanee Aiava, and has a potential second-round match against 2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard of Montreal. Bouchard faces France’s Oceane Dodin in the first round.
