Cycling advocate and consultant Tanya Paz is the latest to seek Vision Vancouver’s nomination for city council.

“The decisions we make in the coming years are crucial to shape the Vancouver we want to see,” Paz said in a statement announcing her bid.

“I love our city. I’m also willing to ask tough questions and tackle difficult issues that we face together.”

Paz has worked in active transportation, car sharing, bike sharing and community planning for two decades.

She has chaired the city’s Active Transportation Policy Council since 2013.

“Whether it’s combating climate change, addressing the housing crisis or delivering the Broadway subway, Vancouverites want their elected representatives to work across party lines to find solutions to our city’s challenges,” she said.

“I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and work with anyone who’s interested in making life better in our city.”

In 2016, Paz responded to allegations of conflict of interest for accepting a short-term full-time contract with Mobi operator Vancouver Bike Share while heading up the city ’s active transportation advisory council.

“When I got the contract with Mobi, I checked with my staff liaison … and was informed that as long as I recuse myself from votes about Mobi, it would be fine,” Paz told Postmedia at the time.

At Mobi, she was tasked with finding locations for bike share stations and getting them permitted and installed.

The municipal election takes place Oct. 20.
