Boeser done for the season, but he’ll be just fine

Leipsic skating a fine line Brendan Leipsic brings speed, playmaking, finish and frustration and it’s all evident on any night. The winger scored twice Monday, including the overtime winner, and had a three-point night to go with three minor penalties. His skill is earning him time with Bo Horvat, but Green didn’t dig his slow start and lack of discipline before rebounding. “I was pretty frustrated,” said Leipsic. “I wasn’t giving myself much of a chance. I wasn’t moving my feet and I just tried to get back to working hard.”

Archibald has arrived Darren Archibald will be a bottom-six shutdown winger next season because he’s big and aggressive on the forecheck, has developed chemistry with Brandon Sutter and will stick up for teammates. He has three goals in his last seven games and converted a penalty shot Monday. “I know I can play in this league,” said Archibald, who was the final camp cut. “I have a lot of faith in myself.”

Bark, bite in Coyotes The Coyotes are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Edmonton on Monday in which they erased a 3-1 deficit, scored late to force the extra session and are slowly doing away with the stigma of a franchise going nowhere fast. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games despite being 30th in goals per game (2.42) and 26th in goals allowed per outing (3.20). Rookie forward Clayton Keller leads the club in scoring with 46 points.

What’s Jokinen’s real role?

Hard to read much into a debut where Jussi Jokinen played on different lines and logged just 9:21 Monday. He had nice passing chemistry on a memorable shift with the Sedins, but is that the right spot for a guy who plays a lot like the twins? Daniel said there was instant chemistry in practice, but who’s going to retrieve pucks?

Boucher gets another look

With the season-ending injury to Brock Boeser, restricted free agent winger Reid Boucher, 24, has been recalled from the Utica Comets and is expected to play tonight. He has 46 points (25-21) in 45 AHL games and two goals in eight NHL games this season.
