SPOTLIGHT ON SEXUALITY
Fans are calling Harry Styles’ new song a ‘bisexual anthem’
Harry Styles’ fans have praised him for debuting new song Medicine, which many have labelled a “bisexual anthem.”
The former One Direction star performed the tune, alongside another unreleased track called Anna, for the first time on his European tour at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France, on Tuesday night.
Fan video from the concert showed the singer crooning as he performed Medicine: “The boys and the girls are here, I mess around with them/ And I’m OK with it/ I’m coming down/ I figured out I kinda like it/ And when I sleep I’m gonna dream of how you tasted.”
The 24-year-old has yet to comment on the inspiration for the song, but fans were quick to take to Twitter to praise the heartthrob for being so open in the song.
One fan tweeted about the singer: “He wants us to know that he knows that we know and what is the reality. We were right about that.
“He’s amazing and I’m sure the truth will be out one day.”
Another wrote, “The official bi anthem is Medicine by Harry Styles and it hasn’t even been released yet.”
Styles’ sexuality has long sparked rumours, with fans questioning his relationships with friends such as British radio DJ Nick Grimshaw. However, during an interview with U.K.’s The Sun last year, Styles insisted he doesn’t feel the need to label his own sexual tastes.
Questioned whether he’s ever labelled his sexuality, he replied, “No, I’ve never felt the need to really. No . ... I don’t feel like it’s something I’ve ever felt like I have to explain about myself.”
Meanwhile, during an interview with Britain’s GQ magazine in 2013, Harry laughed off rumours about him and Grimshaw, adding: “We’re not dating, no. We’re just friends. Bisexual? Me? I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure I’m not... Some of the (rumours) are funny. Some of them are ridiculous. Some of them are annoying. I don’t want to be one of those people that complains about the rumours.”
