Adera singled out with three wins at the Georgies

- BY ROBIN BRUNET

For nearly 50 years, family-owned Adera Development Corporation’s track record of building over 10,000 homes, condos, townhomes and over four million square feet of commercial space has been matched by its constant drive to innovate in order to make the best possible buildings that offer the most value to their clients.

It’s therefore unsurprising that Adera was well recognized at the 2018 Georgie Awards, garnering six nominations and three wins: Best Multi-Family Townhouse Development (Production) for its South Ridge Club – Greenway project in South Surrey; a Grand Georgie for Residential Community of the Year (again for Greenway); and another Grand Georgie as Multi-Family Home Builder of the Year.

Eric Andreasen, vice-president of sales and marketing for Adera, says of the awards: “It’s really in our DNA to try and earn them because it’s satisfying for our customers to know they live in an award-winning home or community. Similarly, it’s great for our staff and trades colleagues because it validates their hard work, skill and craftsmanship.”

Innovation for Adera means taking the lead and setting new standards through design and sustainable features, and on that score Andreasen says: “Wood-frame condo development is really our sole focus, with wood being increasingly recognized for its superior sustainable attributes. In recent years, we’ve expanded into mass timber construction and the use of cross laminated timber (CLT), and this has helped distinguish projects such as Virtuoso at the University of British Columbia campus, as well as our upcoming Crest development in North Vancouver.”

As is the case with so many of Adera’s choices in building materials and strategies, CLT has numerous benefits: it’s extremely fire resistant, it performs better than concrete in seismic conditions, and in collaboration with Adera’s signature Quiet Home technology, it significantly dampens sound transference from home to home using proprietary construction techniques.

In addition, Adera offers I.D. by Me, a signature personalization program that gives buyers complete freedom to express their identity through upgrades for their home.

Andreasen points out that these and other initiatives have been heavily influenced by clients. “Our goal is to provide the most personalized West Coast home experience imaginable, and they constantly give us perspective by defining what life on the West Coast is all about,” he says.

While move-in ready homes are still available at award-winning South Ridge Club, Andreasen is most excited about Crest in central Lonsdale, described as “nostalgic in character, contemporary in style, and defining West Coast living at its best.” He says: “We start our preview program in April, and the response already has been overwhelming.”

As for the Georgie wins, Andreasen views the 2018 ceremony as a night to remember. “Just like us, the Georgies are home grown, and they’re a huge honour. What can I say? Getting the awards felt super!”
