TRAVELLING IN STYLE: INFLUENCERS SHARE TIPS

- ALEESHA HARRIS Aharris@postmedia.com

It’s no secret that influencers — those beautiful, fun-loving individuals likely filling your social media feeds — always seem to be on an exotic vacation.

While you can sit there and groan and bemoan their good fortune at being able to frolic in the sand and swim in international waters on a regular basis, we’re more apt to envy their effortless sense of travel style.

Instead of wondering “how do they do it?” we asked four Vancouver-based lifestyle tastemakers to dish the details on various travelrelated topics, including their top tips for stress-free vacationing and their must-have fashion item.

Combined, these social sensations have more than 350,000 followers who track their every meal, outfit selection, and travel destination. So they know what they’re talking about.

CARA JOURDAN

Where you might know her from: Online at CaraJourdan.com and @CaraJourdan on Instagram Top travel tip: I have learned to travel carry-on only, no matter where or how long I am travelling. I have done three weeks in Europe with carry-on only, and as a blogger, that means having lots of pieces that can mix and match (I am really into matching sets at the moment) and be styled differently to be able to have different outfits for each day.

I travel carry-on only because it makes travelling so much faster: from getting on and off the plane to travelling within a country to different areas or hotels, it is quick and easy. I also found when I did bring checked luggage, I always came home with outfits I never wore. Less is more, and having a carry-on makes you only bring the essentials.

What’s the one fashion item you can’t live without this resort season: White was a big trend for resort wear, which is perfect because I find white is the easiest colour for travel. You can typically dress it up or down, and a little white dress always looks polished with flats, sandals or heels for all occasions. What’s your secret to travelling in style? Linen is magic. It looks so classy, but can roll up really small and the wrinkles fall out quickly, so it is a dream when it comes to travelling.

JASMINE LORIMER

Where you might know her from: The Bachelorette Canada and @jasmine.lorimer on Instagram Top travel tip: Get the most out of your vacation by researching activities and sights in advance. Search your destination in Google Images, click on what catches your eye, and devise a plan on how to get there. Before you know it, you’ll have a schedule of exciting things to experience in order to take full advantage of your getaway.

One fashion item I can’t live without this resort season: I have become slightly obsessed with Lack of Color Hats. I follow them on Instagram, and save basically every photo I see because I want to own them all. A good hat is the perfect accessory to sunshine and a sandy beach.

What’s your secret to travelling in style? I like to pack simple items so that they’re easy to mix and match, but will also include some statement pieces. Sandals, bracelets and hair accessories can create a stylish look on the most understated outfit.

JONATHAN WAICHING HO

Where you might know him from: Online at waichingswall.com and @jonathanho1 on Instagram

Top travel tip: Be prepared for surprises. Travel with an open mind.

What’s the one fashion item you can’t live without this resort season: I love my Dior Homme sunglasses. I cannot imagine travelling without them. No matter where you decide to travel, you can’t go wrong with a good pair of sunnies, and bonus points if they are super stylish.

What’s your secret to travelling in style? I consider myself a happy solo traveller. Travelling in style is about knowing yourself better, saying yes to adventures, losing yourself, and finding it back again in a new place. Well, that’s how it started for me at least. I’ve enjoyed each of my journeys, whether it was Italy or Taiwan and even Cabo San Lucas.

While travelling, it is essential to pack light but also to consider your personal style. Keep the basics minimal, mix and match whatever you can such as shoes, sneakers, denims, beach shorts or printed shirts. Opt for the distinct pieces from your wardrobe and create multiple looks with them. A little planning would definitely ensure you have the picture-perfect vacation.

ALICIA WINNETT

Website: Online at aliciafashionista.com and on @aliciafashionista Instagram

Top travel tip: I recently started using packing cubes and they are amazing. It’s so much easier to be organized and pack light.

What’s the one fashion item you can’t live without this resort season: A big sun hat is a practical way to stay protected from the rays that also looks chic.

What’s your secret to travelling in style? I love pieces that can provide dual functionality. A dress that look great as a beach coverup or worn out to lunch, or perhaps an off-the-shoulder one-piece bathing suit that doubles as a top when paired with shorts.
