Vancouver Sun

Down to the home stretch

As I type today, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and through snow, ice, hail, sleet and torrential rain, you are truly on The Vancouver Sun Run’s home stretch.

It’s your final well-earned recovery week with no brisk intervals and volume that I know you can handle. Honestly, you could do that 10K tomorrow. The next 10 days of training are just icing on the cake.

Having visited RunWalk groups around the province, it has been my privilege to hear people discuss what they enjoy most about their running and walking.

“I can do it anywhere anytime!” “I love experiencing all the seasons outside when I wouldn’t otherwise!”

“I love that I can run up and down stairs without gasping so much!”

“I can’t believe I’m in the best shape of my life and all I did was shuffle along.”

“I love the program because I don’t get bored and I get excited about what’s next every week."

“I’m always surprised how it really does get easier, and where I was struggling at first now I’m sailing through the intervals.”

“I’m a creature of habit so I need a program I can schedule into my life like everything else.”

“For me it’s completely about my mental health. If I don’t run I just don’t have a good day in the same way.”

OK and because Canada’s largest 10K road race is now just around the corner — Sunday, April 22 — here’s just one more of soooooo many reasons to get out there: “I love the Sun Run because even though I don’t need 50,000 people to go for my run, I always feel it’s a jump-start to keeping my running going!”

Thanks for your inspiration everyone — you’ve made it!
