Last weekend was blessed by wonderful weather and a wonderful selection of things to do for carnuts across the Lower Mainland.

This weekend, we get to spread a little further with a swapmeet in Oliver, a motorcycle show and swapmeet in Cloverdale, racing in Mission, a cruise to help out the B.C. Kidney Foundation, and a three-day driving tour headed by JellyBean Auto Crafters.

There’s also the 6th Country Car show hosted by the Vintage Car Club of Canada Fraser Valley chapter. This event has historically been held at Otter Co-op, but as it is currently undergoing a renovation, Aldergrove high school has stepped up with a great new area for the Country Car show to continue and to expand. I will be at the show and look forward to seeing many of you. Saturday I will not be going to any car shows because one of my nephews is getting married. He is not a car guy and actually takes transit to work in a city that hates cars. So this column is dedicated to all things green ... I will only mention cars from last weekend’s car show that are green.

We’ll start with George Pappas’s green 1970 Olds 4-4-2 W-30 with 455 cu. in. engine and four-speed transmission. The W-30 package gets a fibreglass hood complete with functional air scoops, a low-restriction air cleaner, many other engine mods and red inner fender wells to further Identify this as a more potent version of an already potent car.

Second on my green car list is Mike Dicastri’s unfinished 1936 Ford 3 window coupe in a stunning green that smacks the brain when seen in the sun. It still needs an interior but was shown in the unfinished class. I would be proud to drive this sitting on an apple crate if I had to.

Third on my green list is a 1970 LS6 Chevelle just finished by the talented Cam Grant (the younger of the Cam Grants). This car was delivered to customer Dave Savage at the show and we squeaked in a photo shoot for a car magazine after the show. This is no ordinary LS6 Chevelle, but one ordered as part of the Eliminatory package created by an Albertan car dealer Cliff Bristow Motors LTD. Ordering bench seat cars with four-speeds, 4:10 ratio rear-ends and the potent LS6 454 cu. in. engine, they removed the emission controls, added headers, a performance tach and Hurst shifter.

Many of these SS 454 Chevelles were “stripe delete” cars, so they really were meant to be sleepers. Other cool green cars included two green 1970 Plymouth Cuda’s with the 426 Hemi V8, Rich Wood’s Lime Light green car for the street and Don Murray’s Drag racer.

Andrew Johnson’s 1965 Buick Leasable Custom lowrider had a bunch of green metallic flakes shades as well as silver and gold while John Foxely’s 1952 Chevy Coupe Radical Custom had a Gene Winfield classic “Colour Fade paint” green to white paint job. In last week’s column I asked for fellow carnuts to drop off car models for the kids and I want to thank all those who came by with models. I was able to find kids that were very happy to get a cool car model. So keep bringing kids to a car show, I hope to see many more on Sunday at the Country Car show.
