Message from Chair LEAVE A LEGACY TM Greater Vancouver

- Paola Coronado Hass Chair, LEAVE A LEGACY™ Greater Vancouver Senior Advisor, Development Heart and Stroke Foundation Canada

Welcome to our 20th LEAVE A LEGACY™ Supplement and Happy Leave a Legacy Month!

Over the last ten years, LEAVE A LEGACY™ has worked with many partners in our community to share impactful stories and educational articles to inform you on the benefits and ways of making a charitable legacy gift.

This year’s supplement continues to reinforce a very important message: your generosity can make a transformational impact today and in the future, and advance planning will benefit your finances and those closest to you. We hope you’ll enjoy this year’s selection of stories that showcase this power in legacy giving.

With the many adversities in today’s world, you may feel a little unsure as to how you can make an impact or how to get started. Even if you’re currently affiliated with specific charities or causes, this is a good time to do some research — take note of the things you care about, perhaps it’s community development or healthcare, maybe it’s the environment or animal welfare, the arts or immigration.

Once you have identified your interests, reach out to the organizations that are working on those areas and learn how they’re addressing specific needs and what their vision is. We hope the articles in this supplement are a source of inspiration and information. More resources are available on the LEAVE A LEGACY™ Vancouver website: www.LeaveALegacyVancouver.com

As you learn more, involve your loved ones in these conversations. Share your passion and interest. Reach out to your financial and legal advisors to obtain advice on any specific charitable strategies that may fit your particular circumstance.

When you have narrowed down a path for your charitable strategy, be sure to contact the charities you are planning to support to ensure your wishes can be carried out. This is also a great time to learn of any projects that you may be able to get involved with right away.

Be sure to stay connected with your chosen organizations to continue learning about their activities and the impact they are making. And don’t forget to review your charitable strategy from time to time to adjust it to any changes in your life.

Most importantly, enjoy the journey. As you will read in the pages that follow, giving is a beautiful experience.
