OTTAWA • Ottawa police have laid 43 more charges of sexual assault and 40 accusations of voyeurism against a family doctor who practised until recently at the University of Ottawa Health Services.

Vincent Nadon, 56, of Chelsea, Que., now faces charges in connection with 51 alleged victims.

Nadon was first charged with sexual assault and voyeurism after a patient in her 20s reported a Jan. 16 incident in which the doctor is accused of secretly filming her during a medical exam at a University of Ottawa Health Services clinic.

After police announced the doctor’s arrest, 10 more patients came forward with allegations of sexual assault. And on Friday, police said there have been further complaints leading to charges involving 40 more women.

Nadon has been removed from his position at the clinic and banned from practising at all other University of Ottawa clinics.

Police say there could be victims from as far back as the late 1980s.

The university put out a statement Friday saying it is concerned by the charges, and advises any former patients who believe there was possible misconduct to contact police.

It adds the health service “will be communicating directly with former patients of Dr. Nadon regarding the provisions in place to assure their ongoing care.”

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario said that it vigorously investigates and prosecutes sexual abuse cases, and that “sexual contact between a physician and patient is a violation of a physician’s ethical obligations and represents professional misconduct.

“These charges contain very troubling allegations,” it says in a statement.

“The college has consistently advocated for stricter penalties in cases of sexual abuse and we will continue to work with government for further legislative and regulatory changes to protect the public.”
