Former B.C. premier Christy Clark has a new job as a senior adviser with law firm Bennett Jones.

In a press release touting the hire, Bennett Jones says Clark will be part of the firm’s governmental affairs and public policy team that also includes former deputy prime minister Anne McLellan and former foreign minister John Baird.

Bennett Jones is a Canadian law firm with headquarters in Calgary and Toronto. Clark will work out of the firm’s Vancouver office in the Guinness Tower.

Clark’s history of creating a diversified economy in B.C. fits in well with the interests of the firm’s clients, said Radha Curpen, managing partner of Bennett Jones’ office in Vancouver.

“She has worked in areas that are important to our clients — infrastructure, technology, Asia Pacific, trade,” Curpen said. “All those areas are important to our clients across our platform and also in Vancouver.”

“Joining Bennett Jones is an excellent fit,” Clark said in a news release.

“The firm is helping clients seize opportunities in sectors such as infrastructure, technology and innovation, trade with Asia and natural resources.

“These are areas I am passionate about and worked on closely as premier.”

Clark was premier of B.C. from March 14, 2011 to July 18, 2017. She resigned from government and quit politics last year after the NDP and Greens toppled her Liberal government with a nonconfidence vote and Lt.- Gov. Judith Guichon rejected her recommendation for a new election in favour of asking John Horgan to form government.
