New Westminste­r mayor will run again

Jonathan Cote has announced he wants to be New Westminste­r’s mayor again.

Cote was first elected as the Royal City’s mayor in 2014 after serving three terms as a city councillor.

“It has been an honour to serve as mayor of New Westminste­r for the past four years. Our city is going through an exciting time and I am extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish. I look forward to the opportunit­y to continue working on building a vibrant and livable community,” Cote said in a release.

Cote says he has been focused on transporta­tion, affordable housing and urban planning.

He also says he has the support of all members of New Westminste­r’s city council.

“Jonathan has demonstrat­ed solid leadership in his first term as mayor of New Westminste­r,” said Coun. Bill Harper.

“He has a deep understand­ing of the issues facing our city and has helped our community become one of the most forward thinking cities in our region. He is thoughtful, collaborat­ive and brings out the best in members of city council. I am proud to support Jonathan in his re-election campaign.”
