HATCHET THROWN ATTEENSEEN AS HATE CRIME
NORTH BROOKFIELD, MASS. Police in Massachusetts are searching for two suspects a woman says yelled racial slurs and threw a hatchet at her 14-year-old son walking home from school.
Tanya Collins told WHDHTV her son had just gotten off the bus when two masked men in a passing vehicle yelled and threw the hatchet at his head, forcing the boy to duck out of the way.
“It went right past his head. He ducked back,” Collins told the TV station. “It landed right in front of him.”
The boy, who is black, was not hurt and ran home.
“I don’t know what to say. It’s unbelievable,” another parent told the station. “I’m just shocked.”
North Brookfield Police Chief Mark Smith told the station he considers the confrontation reported Tuesday a hate crime.
