New Prince album in Sept.
Prince’s heirs have marked the late singer’s birthday by announcing the release of an album featuring unheard material. When the star died in April 2016, he left a huge vault of unused music, and on Thursday, on what would have been Prince’s 60th birthday, representatives for his estate announced news of the new record. The album, called Piano & A Microphone 1983, includes nine tracks taken from cassette recordings of him playing on a piano in his home studio in Chanhassen, Minn. Songs that will appear on the record include unheard versions of 17 Days and Purple Rain, as well as a cover of Joni Mitchell’s A Case of You. Piano & A Microphone 1983 will be released Sept. 21 by The Prince Estate and Warner Bros. Records.
