BOUTIQUE REVAMPED

Owner explains new direction

- ALEESHA HARRIS

The natural-beauty movement continues to boom in Vancouver. From new brands to beautiful boutiques, the city is a haven for the green-beauty initiative.

The newly rebranded (and relocated) shop Lynn Steven is a place where shoppers can explore healthier beauty and wellness brands, and products — as well as buy them.

We caught up with owner Nicole Dennis Durnin to chat about the revamped boutique, what’s different and why she’s betting big on green beauty:

Q You had a successful boutique by the same name for several years. Why did you decide to close the old shop and rebrand?

A It was where I was at personally; 2017 was a very stressful year for me and I needed to make a change. Last summer, all of our clothing-brand vendors were calling me for spring 2018 buying and I thought to myself that I just didn’t want to buy clothing anymore.

It was important to keep the Lynn Steven name, though, it’s very important to me. Not only because of the name recognition we’ve built, but because the shop is named after my mom and younger brother.

Q What can people expect to find in the new store?

A A well-curated selection of the best products out there in green/clean beauty and wellness. We love supporting local and Canadian lines, and have often been the launching pad for many brands.

Q What makes beauty/wellness a better fit than fashion?

A Personally, I needed a change. After running a successful clothing-focused shop for eight years, I found myself in a different place personally and the ideas of personal wellness and organic, green beauty resonated with me. But it was also a business decision — the retail landscape has changed so much over the years and I felt that there was a niche that needed to be filled within Vancouver in the clean-beauty sector. We did have a small, curated selection of green-beauty products at our old location and it quickly became our No. 1 category in the shop.

Q Who is the target Lynn Steven customer?

A Anyone interested in learning more about clean beauty and taking the best care of themselves. Our motto is “You Matter” and I think that extends to all aspects of a person’s life, no matter what stage they are at.

Q What is the price range for products in your new store?

A: Three dollars to $240. We have a price point for every budget.
