SHOW ’N’ SHINE
Take a road trip this weekend
Well I buckled up last Sunday and made it to five car shows in one day. The day before I only made it to one, but the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum show is always a favourite
Sunday morning started early at 7:30 at the Mopar Madness show in Langley as the cars were beginning to roll in. One of the first owners I spoke to bought his yellow 1973 Challenger new and even had a photo of it hauling a U-Haul trailer back in the day when he moved stateside. I also met George Krobath who has owned his 1966 ’Cuda for five years and restored it himself.
Then it was off to Semiahmoo Mall to check out the Totem T-Bird Club. I have soft spot for the baby birds, but there was a great selection of cars to please all car nuts. Province Trucking columnist John G. Stirling was there with his wife Lorene and their 1965 Pontiac Parisienne. John took me for a ride on Friday morning in the nearly 18-foot car they have owned for 18 years.
Next it was into the city for the Dueck Downtown show, another packed venue with all sorts of great cars, most notably the Gasser Chevy 2. From there, it was over the bridge to North Van’s Waterfront Park for the Corvette Club.
Another great turnout that one of the area’s greatest car show locales. And last, but not least, was a stop on the way home at the Woods Hotel, home of Woody’s Pub and their car show. A part of my youth was spent at this fine establishment after working at Fraser Mills. Lots of great cars absolutely jammed the parking lot.
Too many to mention, but there was a 1969 Ford LTD Country Squire station Wagon similar to the family trickster my parents drove. A different colour, but so many memories.
So check this week’s list, grab a kid and see how many shows you can make this weekend.
