Axford, Loup find new homes

The Toronto Blue Jays dealt their longest serving player on what turned out to be a busy MLB nonwaiver trade deadline day.

Lefty relief pitcher Aaron Loup, who joined the team in 2012, heads to Philadelph­ia for righty pitcher Jacob Waguespack, a 24-year-old who has a 5.06 ERA at triple-A as both a reliever and starter.

Toronto then moved Canadian reliever John Axford to the Los Angeles Dodgers for right-handed pitcher Corey Copping, who has an ERA of 2.53 in Double-A this season. The reliever has also seen some time in triple-A this season. In other deals Tuesday: The Pittsburgh Pirates added starting pitcher Chris Archer from Tampa Bay for a pair of coveted prospects in outfielder Austin Meadows and pitcher Tyler Glasnow, plus a player to be named later. Archer, a two-time all-star, is 3-5 with a 4.31 ERA in 17 starts.

Meadows hit .292 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 49 games for the Pirates. The 24-year-old Glasnow, a 6-foot-8 right-hander, is 1-2 with a 4.34 ERA in 34 appearance­s.

Arizona added left-hander Jake Diekman from Texas for righthande­r Wei-Chieh Huang and a player to be named.

Milwaukee acquired second baseman Jonathan Schoop from Baltimore for Jonathan Villar and two prospects.

Atlanta added right-handers Kevin Gausman and Darren O’Day from Baltimore for four prospects.

Minnesota traded Brian Dozier to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Logan Forsythe and two prospects.

St. Louis traded outfielder Tommy Pham to Tampa for three minor leaguers and internatio­nal slot money.

Washington sent reliever Brandon Kintzler to the Chicago Cubs.

Miami sent Cameron Maybin to Seattle.

The Phillies acquired catcher Wilson Ramos from Tampa.

Cleveland acquired centre-fielder Leonys Martin from Detroit.

Arizona picked up right-hander Brad Ziegler from Miami.
