Plug into ElectraFest this weekend
I’m super stoked to be at the Historic Races at Mission Raceway Park road course tomorrow morning then off to the Downtown Abby Car show in the afternoon.
I have not been able to see either of these events for the past few years as they conflict with my trip to Car Week in Northern California, but this year Car Week is pushed back a week so I am getting to see many more shows.
The highlight of this year’s Historic races, in my opinion at least, will be the special Formula Vee race celebrating Burnaby’s
Al Ores 50th year of racing. There are also public rides in real race cars with all proceeds going to the Mission Hospice Society.
And there’s lots to look at off the track too, as the parking lot will be filled with cool cars.
Last weekend I started out my weekend at the Mission Raceway Park drag strip for the Friday night street car drags.
Well, technically I started my weekend like many from the Lower Mainland stuck in bad traffic heading out of town. It was good to be back at the track, but I missed seeing one very quick 1963 Beetle owned by Bennie Dickinson run the quarter-mile in just 12.3 seconds (108 m.p.h.).
On Saturday I only went to one show, the North Delta Car Show, and on Sunday the VW show downtown. I have fond memories of my various VW Cabrios that I drove for a decade before I got my classic pickup.
The one thing about single marque shows is the cool photographs you can take of rows of similar cars all lined up.
The VW show should also win an award for the number of kids at a car show ... awesome job and keep up the great work!
