Airport dinner a cancer fundraiser

- MIA STAINSBY

Here’s something that would otherwise land you in jail: a dinner in a private jet hangar on Apron Three overlooking the runways at Vancouver International Airport.

The dinner, on Sept. 22, is a fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Canada and certainly raises the bar for unique experiences.

The event includes a host bar, barbecue (grilled lamb T-bone, beef filet, free range chicken, corn biscuit, tomato goat cheese tart, and more) by Fairmont Vancouver airport chef Colin Burslem.

Guests will also enjoy a Glenlivet whisky tasting, jet viewing, music and a luxury experience auction.

Life Labs will be on site for complimentary prostate cancer blood screening tests, not covered by the province.

Tickets are $225 and available by emailing vancouverairport@fairmont.com or calling 604-2483281.

HONEY SALT COOKBOOK

They’re high-profile players in the Las Vegas restaurant scene and, as of last year, they did the same in Vancouver.

Now Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla, the power couple behind Honey Salt, Victor, B.C. Kitchen and Mrkt East at Parq Vancouver, have put out a cookbook, Honey Salt Food and Drink: A Culinary Scrapbook with recipes, cooking tips and stories from Honey Salt.

Along with recipes from the restaurant and some culinary journeys (Okanagan, Vancouver, Cape Cod, Santa Barbara, Italy), readers will find cooking tips from chef Canteenwalla.

Recipes include some family favourites, like son Cole’s beloved chocolate chunk cookies and Sunday barbecue go-to dishes.
