Catch the Whistler Vibe with a Village Stroll

- DAVID BROATCH

Whistler Village might just be one of the planet’s best strolls—a lively and invigorating family-friendly mix of shopping, dining, partying, exploring and people watching that positively crackles with good vibes and happy energy.

“Exploring the village is one of Whistler’s signature activities,” says Tourism Whistler’s Lauren Everest. “It’s a pedestrian-only heaven nestled at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains with meandering stone walkways that lead you to shops, restaurants, art galleries and more.”

The shops come big and small, and are local and artsy and, of course, ski-related, too. The hotels, streetside patios and restaurants range from casual to fancy and everything in between. There are art galleries and museums and the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, which showcases the history of the area’s First Nations peoples. There is even a new Pod Hotel to bridge the price gap between hotel suites and the local hostel.

The Village encompasses three different areas—Village Centre, Village North and the Upper Village, each with its own distinct flavour and all connected by the Village Stroll. You can walk from your hotel in the heart of the village straight to the ski slopes in winter, or to the Farmer’s Market at the base of Blackcomb Mountain in the Upper Village, or over to the Olympic Plaza for free concerts during the summer months.

“The vibe in the village is uniquely Whistler,” says Everest. “There is always something to see and do, and adventure is only steps away.”
