POURING RAIN CAN’T STOP THE CAR NUTS

A couple of cool vehicles on display and an old friend make wet weekend well worth it

What do you call a sunny day that follows two days of rain? Why, Monday of course.

September is always the luck of the draw in regards to rain, so lets hope for good weather this weekend as there is only one show and a couple of races on the Lower Mainland. This also marks my last column for the 2018 season.

Last weekend I went to four car events in pouring rain. The coffee and cars event at Cates Park in North Van had some pretty cool cars but the numbers were way down because of the rain.

The Jolly Macs Show only had one truck at around 10:30 a.m., and the Acrophobiacs Car-B-Q had only a few more than that a half-hour later, but the drive from North Van to two shows in Surrey in the pouring rain in the oldest car on the road is kind of cool all on its own.

After South Surrey I drove to the Porsche dealer in Langley where there was a nice selection of cool cars. Best of all they let me “Power Park” in the best spot of the show. No doubt it was being saved for some supercar that stayed home.

I ran into a guy from high school, Dean Hooseman, who was having decals applied for this weekend’s big Porsche run up the Sea-to- Sky Highway.

I headed home for lunch and put the ’66 Chevy truck into the garage for some drying time. Then we headed out for a drive to scout some cool locations to photograph cars.

We started in Langley but ventured over to South Surrey and dropped in again to the Acrophobiacs Car-B-Q as they were wrapping up but did get to see some very cool cars. There were a couple of vans and one had the full Boogie Van treatment with the wild velour interior and was for sale. If I had the garage space that wicked van would be at my house.

Have a great winter and remember to get a kid to help you with your garage project.

?? ?? At the Coffee N Cars event at Cates Park in North Vancouver the numbers were small due to the weather, but the totally done-up 260z and the rare Pontiac Solstice coupe made it well worth attending.
