FORD CHARTS BOLD PATH FOR NEXT FIVE YEARS
Strategy includes launching more hybrids and electric models, and a self-driving vehicle business
As part of our US$11-billion investment in electrification, we plan to put 40 new electrified vehicles on the road by 2020.
With a spirit of innovation transforming our business in ways we’ve never seen before, Ford is committed to continuing to earn the trust that Canadians have placed in us for more than a century. We’re focused on offering more choice than ever, transforming our vehicle lineup and the services we’ll offer, with consumers at the centre of everything we do.
Looking ahead, Ford has a bold strategy that includes introducing exhilarating new vehicles over the next five years, going all-in on hybrids, leading the charge with inspiring electric vehicles, and building a self-driving vehicle business that makes life easier and more convenient. That’s a lot to take in, so let’s tackle this one piece at a time.
Ford is enhancing its product portfolio to provide consumers with more choice and to better address the attributes they value most. We’re revolutionizing our car lineup with higher ride height, more space, greater versatility and even better fuel efficiency. We’re also adding seven models over the next five years, bringing back icons like Ranger and Bronco, and introducing soon-to-be favourites, including a yet-to-be-named rugged utility and a Mustang-inspired battery electric performance utility.
In fact, Ford plans to have the freshest lineup in the industry by 2020.
By 2023, our broader portfolio will feature 23 models — three more than today — offering consumers a variety of vehicle options that truly fit their diverse lifestyles.
Our product shift will also prominently feature hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles, giving you more choice in the fuel that moves you. As part of our US$11-billion investment in electrification, we plan to put 40 new electrified vehicles on the road by 2022.
When it comes to hybrids and plug-in hybrids, Ford is going allin, bringing more capability, efficiency and performance to models Canadians already know and love, from F-150 to Mustang, to our entire utilities lineup.
Our commitment to hybrids is just one example of how Ford is revolutionizing its products, offering customers vehicles that don’t compromise on capability, range, space, or style.
However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Ford is also bringing a suite of battery electric vehicles to market, starting in 2020 with our first-ever battery electric performance utility, inspired by the iconic Ford Mustang.
The first of seven new battery electric offerings from Ford in North America, this all-new model has an expected range of at least 480 kilometres on a single charge without sacrificing capability, and will change the way you think about electric vehicles.
Hot on the heels of our battery electric utility is a purpose-built self-driving vehicle, launching in 2021, that will be at the heart of a consumer-focused self-driving business for Ford.
We think self-driving vehicles can enhance services currently available to consumers, from goods delivery to ride-sharing and ride-hailing.
When it comes to self-driving vehicles, as it does with our entire business, trust is our guiding principle. This might seem like common sense, but when new technology comes to market, it can be all too easy to design with technology as the priority, not people.
While other companies race to be the first to put a self-driving vehicle on the road, we refuse to cut corners or rush the process.
It’s why we have a two-person team in every self-driving research vehicle, why we are researching how self-driving vehicles interact with the world around them and how that world interacts with these vehicles, and why we believe there needs to be a common language for self-driving vehicles to make their intentions clear to everyone and everything around them.
From transforming our vehicle portfolio, to our commitment to electrification, to developing smart vehicles for a smart world, our customers will always be at the centre of our designs, so that every time you use a Ford vehicle or service, you feel confident and safe.
That’s how we’ve earned your trust for more than 100 years, and as we build the future together, it’s our continuing commitment to you.
