Mounties in Richmond say they have found no evidence of any crime of voter fraud.
Late last week, Richmond RCMP received two allegations of possible voter manipulation associated to the social media app WeChat.
So far, investigators say they have found no evidence to substantiate a criminal charge. RCMP say everyone involved with the allegations cooperated with police.
On Friday, the cities of Richmond, Vancouver and Burnaby were all looking into messages circulating on the Chinese social media app WeChat. The messages alleged the Richmondbased Wen Zhou Friendship Society had encouraged people in a private chat group to vote for certain candidates in Richmond, Vancouver and Burnaby, and offered money.
The City of Richmond referred the matter to Richmond RCMP for further investigation.
On Friday, Richmond spokesperson Cpl. Dennis Hwang said the RCMP has only received third party allegations of wrongdoing in the election process.
He said no individuals have come forward to the Richmond RCMP citing that they have been victimized in any matters related to the voting process and encouraged anyone believing they have been a victim to contact police.
