Canuck wonder twins will be inducted into B.C. Sports Hall of Fame
Vancouver Canucks greats Henrik and Daniel Sedin are heading into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame.
The Sedin brothers played more regular-season games — 1,330 (Henrik) and 1,306 (Daniel) — and scored more points — 1,070 (Henrik) and 1,041 (Daniel) — than any other players in Vancouver Canucks’ history.
Joining the recently retired Swedish wonder twins in the B.C. sports hall’s 2019 induction class are retired World Cup skier Emily Brydon, former NFL place kicker Roy Gerela and rugby star Kelly McCallum.
Brydon, a product of Fernie, reached the World Cup podium nine times in her career, and competed in three Olympics (2002 Salt Lake City, 2006 Torino and 2010 Vancouver).
Gerela, who was raised in Powell River, was a two-time Pro Bowl kicker who won three Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 1970s.
McCallum, a fly-half from Surrey, captained Canada’s woman’s national rugby team, competed in two World Cups, and was the first woman to be named the B.C. Rugby Union’s player of the year in 2001-02.
Heading into the hall as builders are: Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland; former Canadian women’s national team coach Darlene Currie; and former Canadian national soccer team coach and Vancouver Whitecaps manager Tony Waiters.

Pioneer: Ralph (Hunk) Henderson, a basketball and football star with UBC in the 1930s, helped established the B.C. Lions in 1954. W.A.C. Bennett Award: Vancouver Giants’ owner Ron Toigo, who played a major role in bringing both the 2006 and 2019 World Junior Hockey Championships to Vancouver.

The 53rd Induction Class will be honoured at the 2019 Induction Gala, presented by Victory Square, May 23, 2019, at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Since 1966, the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame has inducted 385 individuals and 60 teams.
