A Magical Month at Sea to Sky Gondola

- ROBERT UNDERHILL

If you truly want to experience the magic of Christmas this year, with plenty of holiday-themed activities and events, make sure to plan a trip to the Sea to Sky Gondola, located just forty-five minutes north of Vancouver. This spectacular mountaintop playground opens for the season on Saturday, December 1. A scenic twenty-minute gondola ride, overlooking Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky Highway below, takes you to the Summit Lodge, where the Spirit of Christmas awaits. New this year, Santa himself will be at the Summit daily from December 1 to 21. Kids will be able to meet St. Nick, tell him what they want under the tree, and take photos. Santa will also have days where he’ll be doing crafts and more with the children, and there’s a mailbox for kids to drop their letters to Santa from December 1 to 14—and he’ll even write back! For the foodies, there’s a Community Christmas Dinner, featuring a family-style three-course meal on December 7, and a Holiday Wine Pairing Dinner on December 14. The Gondola also offers a fantastic Snowshoe & Fondue package, featuring a guided snowshoe tour through pristine alpine trails followed by a yummy chocolate fondue in the Summit Lodge. Even if you don’t snowshoe, you’ll certainly want to get outside once you arrive at the Summit Lodge. Just across the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge you’ll find an incredible array of trails suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness. Wander beautiful forested paths strewn with lights and holiday decorations, creating a truly enchanting Christmas experience you won’t soon forget. You’ll want to snap some selfies amidst the fairy lights and jaw-dropping snow-draped mountain vistas. Finally, if you like holiday music and singing Christmas carols, then make sure to take in the Family Sing-Along on December 5, or the all-ages live Christmas concert and sing-along on December 16.
