Musical legends to rock concert stage at PNE
Video game exhibit, food and magic are all on the bill at end-of-summer annual exposition
Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto.
Remember that refrain on Aug. 25 when Styx appears at the 2019 Summer Nights Concert Series at the PNE Fair 2019. The veteran Chicago classic rockers are but one highlight of the 15-date concert run. In keeping with mixing and matching entertainers to audiences from a wide-ranging demographic, top draws from the ’60s to the ’90s are ready to rock and rap.
Among those artists making their first appearances at the fair are Billy Idol (Aug. 31) and the legendary Smokey Robinson (Aug. 23). Perennial faves such as Blue Rodeo (Aug. 17), Colin James (Aug. 28) and ZZ Top (Aug. 18) will also appear. The Texas boogie rock band is celebrating its 50th anniversary tour, a figure few bands ever reach.
As everyone knows, the PNE Fair is also all about the non-musical entertainment and new attractions (and latest deep-fried delicacies). This year doesn’t disappoint here either.
The Superconscious Experience comes to you courtesy of the man they call Reveen. Tyrone Reveen, that is.
The son of the famous hypnotist will demonstrate his familial talents, taking audience members on journeys they may not recall daily at the Pacific Coliseum. It’s a trip down memory lane at the Game Changer Exhibit though, where the Garden Auditorium is turned over to an exhibit charting the evolution of video games. Expect a long line at the Pong console.
Of course, the President’s Choice SuperDogs are back for three shows daily at the Pacific Coliseum. This year’s show is titled Abracadabark and really showcases the “magic” of SuperDogs. Canine owners already are well familiar with the vanishing any-kind-offood-that-can-be-reached trick.
This year’s PNE Prize Home is a 3,159-square-foot luxury farmhouse-inspired home that will be moved to Kelowna’s Kirschner Mountain at fair’s end. Kitted out with net-zero readiness for considerable electricity savings, the three-bedroom, 2½-bath home is decorated by Yaletown Interiors with a Coast Appliances kitchen. It will be open for viewing daily.
Naturally, all that entertaining around the park will build up hunger and the full menu offering will be posted soon.
One place that will be buzzing for dining is the Revel District, where the Corona Bar features I Love Churros, Los Tacos Hermanos and a slushie margarita bar.
The Revel District Stage will have Tuck Entertainment presenting For The Love Of Drag nightly alongside Mama Lou, Strong Woman ripping apart phone books.
This reimagined space should be hopping.
