- Tim Baines

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday that Ottawa Redblacks running back/ return man Stefan Logan is being held in a Watertown, N.Y. jail.

The 38-year-old Logan, who joined the Redblacks midseason — playing eight games — is being held without bail at the Jefferson County Jail. It’s believed that Logan won’t be re-signed by the Redblacks for the 2020 season.

WWNY 7 News reported state police arrested Logan on Monday when he tried crossing into the U.S. at Alexandria Bay. Police told the TV station that U.S. customs officials learned Logan was wanted in Michigan for failure to pay child support. Logan is awaiting extradition.

Logan has played nine seasons in the CFL with B.C., Montreal and Ottawa.

In 2008, his first season with the Lions, he rushed for 899 yards while gaining another 477 yards in pass receptions.

In 2015 with the Alouettes, he had two punt returns for touchdowns.

In 2019, with the Redblacks, he returned 38 punts for 486 yards and 34 kickoffs for 719 yards.

Logan also spent time in the NFL with Miami, Pittsburgh and Detroit, where he played from 2010-12. In 2010, he returned a kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown and was a Pro Bowl alternate.

A statement from the Redblacks read: “The Ottawa Redblacks are aware that Stefan Logan was recently arrested in New York State. Out of respect for the legal process, the club will have no further comment.”

Montreal Gazette reporter Herb Zurkowsky tweeted in mid-january that Logan had been arrested in Florida for driving with a suspended licence and failure to pay back child support.
