Staying in with ... Zenon Zubyk
With galleries locked, concert halls closed and theatres dark, Postmedia has reached out to B.C. artists of all types to find out what they are doing during these trying COVID-19 times.
Ballet B.C. dancer Zenon Zubyk has taken some time to answer our isolation questionnaire.
Q Where are you spending most of your time?
A Spending all my time at my parents’ house.
Q Who are you with?
A It’s just my mom, dad and I.
Q Where are you getting your information?
A I read a few news sources in the morning. I try not to overload.
Q What is something you are doing that you don’t normally do?
A I’ve just started learning how to use a sewing machine and I am planning to spend quite a bit of time with it.
Q What do you have lots of in your cupboards?
A Peanut butter. I have maybe four or five jars around.
Q What have you been reading?
A Just started rereading Bluets by Maggie Nelson, and M-train by Patti Smith.
Q What have you been watching?
A Just got a one-month free trial for Mubi. There are so many films on there that I’ve been wanting to watch.
Q What are you doing for exercise?
A Gaga (a form of contemporary dance) classes online, yoga online, pushups here and there.
Q What worries you?
A The uncertainty, not knowing when I’ll see the people I love again. Trying to take things day by day.
Q If and when this ends what will be different?
A Certainly everything. The whole approach to daily life, the appreciation for community. Will most definitely cherish every moment I get to spend around my friends and family.
