Damon under ‘fairy tale’ quarantine

- CRAIG SIMPSON

Matt Damon has described his eight weeks of lockdown in Ireland as a “fairy tale” after being tracked down by a local radio station.

The actor has been isolating with his family in Dalkey, Dublin, after he was caught out by coronavirus restrictions while filming the Ridley Scott project The Last Duel, and has since been spotted swimming and running errands.

New neighbour Bono, the U2 singer, urged the actor to appear on a local radio station that had been trying to track him down. Damon, confined with his wife, Luciana Barroso and three of their four children, finally spoke on air about the good fortune of being confined with his loved ones.

The Bourne franchise actor has adapted to life in the affluent seaside resort, and was even prepared for home-schooling, with teachers already hired for his children before lockdown began. His eldest daughter contracted coronavirus while studying in New York, but has since recovered.

“It’s incredible,” he told local station Spin 1038. “This is one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been. Obviously what’s going on in the world is horrible, but I’m with my whole family, I’ve got my kids.

“We have teachers with us because we were planning on missing school for about eight weeks, so we’ve got what nobody else has, which is actual live human beings teaching our kids. We feel guilty we’ve got this kind of incredible setup in this place, which is just absolutely gorgeous.”
