In Loving Memory of Loretta Meneghello. Loretta passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the Langley Hospice with loving family at her side. Janet Loretta Washburn was born July 11, 1931, in Kitwanga, BC, the youngest child of Alice Evelyn Sampere and William Washburn. She was predecease­d by siblings Carl, Alice (Bonnie), and Irene. Beloved wife of Davide Meneghello. Loving mother of Janet Goheen (Donald), Lynette Fraser (Doug), Howard Jonason, John (Linda), David (Deborah), Lorenia Wozney (David), Michael (Lisa), and dearly beloved by her grandchild­ren. The youngest of four children, Loretta learned early in life to be self-reliant. She was only two years old when her Mother died. At the age of 7 years old, Loretta was diagnosed with tuberculos­is and spent a year in hospital. Her grandfathe­r raised the children after her Mother's death. He subsequent­ly arranged for the sisters to attend the Ridley School for Girls in Prince Rupert. Loretta resided there until the age of fourteen at which time she commenced her working career alongside her sister Irene at Mill Bay and later Prince Rupert. It was in Prince Rupert that she met lifelong friends Norma, Madge, and Cora. Madge recounts how Loretta always dressed well and loved to dance. It was also in Prince Rupert that she met future husband Dave, later relocating to Stewart where they raised their children. Loretta was kept busy during those years managing the family contractin­g and rental businesses. She also worked as a custodian for the Stewart Elementary School. Loretta was an avid reader as well as highly creative and adept at knitting and crocheting. She was known for baking the best cinnamon buns in the town. She volunteere­d wherever possible, including many years supporting the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1993 Loretta moved to the Vernon. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. Loretta lived at the Earl Haig Independen­t Living Residence in Coquitlam for the last ten years. She loved working as a volunteer in the office, giving tours, and calling bingo. Loretta was known as an excellent crib player. She cherished visits and dinners with family, especially with grandchild­ren.
