SHERLOCK, Linda Jane

-

October 23, 1938 - May 28, 2020

It is with great sadness we said goodbye to Linda Jane Samis Sherlock on May 28, 2020 in Vancouver. Predeceased by parents Jim and Betty Blair, Fred Scythes and brother Jimmy, she leaves behind a large blended and extended family and countless friends. Left behind is Ken, her husband of 33 years, sister Mary, children Jennifer (Steve) , Jane and Christopher (Natalie) as well as bonus kids Wendy (Tim), Chris and Craig (Tracy) and her grandchildren, Owen, Samantha, Henry, Thomas, Katie, Ian, Ryan, Zachary and Andy. Born in Toronto on October 23, 1938, she moved to Vancouver as a young girl, but stayed close with her family back East. She went to York House and UBC and received her Masters in Education. Mum loved being a teacher. She cared for her students like they were her own children and many colleagues became great friends. Mum was an extremely organized, capable and fiercely independent woman. A single parent for a number of years, she worked hard and kept track of everything! There are journals of gas prices, her weight, Christmas dinners, who got voted out of Survivor and more. There are so many great memories...boundary Bay and bingo nights with the Knauers, bridge club, auction nights led by Sharon, Connecticut, knitting shawls, sewing, gardening, laminated chore signs, drinking soup while reading a good book, being Dammy and Liddy, her cats, crossword puzzles, scrabble, tetris and majong, shopping, taking photos, hosting large family dinners, her computer room, her labeled shoe collection, homemade chocolate sauce, chocolate and ice-cream to genealogy and years of bowling and lawn bowling with friends. Although the Alzheimer's path was definitely not the one she wanted to follow, she kept on going. She still was able to show the love she felt and feel the love that was given to her by everyone right until the end. Yaletown House became Mums home away from home in 2017. The care, compassion and communication from the beginning was outstanding and how they have stepped it up and maintained that high level during these times is so admirable. We were able to say good-bye. We love and miss you Mum! Due to the Covid 19, there is no immediate service planned. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC or Yaletown House Society in memory of Mum. Thank you!
