Rapper unloads glass house

- MELISSA HANK

People who live in glass houses ... might decide the hassle of constant Windex-ing just isn't worth it. Maybe that's the case with Pharrell Williams.

The rapper, record producer and entrepreneur has sold his glass-covered mansion in Beverly Hills for US$14 million.

That's a loss for Williams, who in 2018 bought the property for US$15.6 million from Tyler Perry. Williams initially had been asking for US$16.95 million, celebrity gossip website Page Six reports.

Big, blocky and constructed in contemporary style, the home was compared to an office building when it first hit the market in March.

The estate is 17,000 square feet, has 10 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, and its 60-metre-long driveway can hold more than 30 vehicles. There also are koi ponds, a tennis court and a grotto with waterfalls.

Inside, a sculptural staircase sits at the centre of the floor plan, in a sky-lit atrium with indoor fountains and gallery white walls.

Williams, who's won 13 Grammy Awards and has been nominated twice for an Oscar, also has another glass-covered home for sale in the Hollywood Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles.

That property has five bedrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, an infinity pool and a two-storey detached guest house. It's been listed for US$11.95 million since May.
