-

The Clarence Creek Beavers had a rough start to their new junior B hockey season over the Labour Day weekend.

The Beavers lost both games over the September long weekend including a Labour Day Monday 3-2 loss in a road game against the Renfrew Timberwolves.

Renfrew opened the scoring in the first period, with second period staying at 1-0 for the home team as neither side was able to punch in a goal.

Third period, the Beavers got on the scoreboard with two points but the Timberwolves matched those to take the win in the end. Total shots on goal by the end of the match were 43 for Renfrew and 32 for Clarence Creek.

Andrew McIntyre put the Timberwolves on the board four minutes into first period with scoring assists from Connor Fulton and Jonathan Rosien. Second period remai- ned scoreless as both teams jockeyed for position.

Third period saw an early one-two scoring punch from the Beavers with Ryan Sabourin firing in the first goal for the team just after a minute of play with assistance from Will Murray and Gabriel Rousselle. Almost a minute later, Suraj Bali slammed in the second goal for Clarence with help from Pierce Britton and Daniel Mellon.

The Beavers held the lead until the halfway mark of the period when Brandon English tied up the score with a power-play goal, assisted by Corey Chaplin and Nolan Rook. McIntyre punched in the winning goal with seven seconds left on the clock, on a pass from Jerim Ryan.

Next game in the opening season schedule for the Beavers is Saturday, Sept. 10, 8 p.m., at the Char-Lan Recreation Centre against the Char-Lan Rebels.
