The Rockland Ford Mustang is on the road on a promo tour of Prescott-Russell before its special rally run as part of this year’s Canada Day 150 celebrations and as one of the popular features of the annual Ottawa River Festival.

Sylvain Dupuis is happy, so far, with the advance sign-ups for the Annual Rockland Ford Classic Poker Run next month. The popular automotive rally has proven a big attraction for Rockland’s summer tourism and one of the community event highlights of the season.

“First, because of the fact that it’s raising money for breast cancer research,” said Dupuis, regarding the factors that make the rally one of the main events of the summer for Rockland. “Second is the Mustang owners’ enthusiastic love to go for rallies. They just like to drive and show off their cars.”

As of Monday, June 12, there were 50 advance registrations from Mustang owners in the Prescott-Russell area and beyond to take part in this year’s rally. Dupuis expressed confidence that come Rally Day morning there will be at least 100 cars or more ready and revving their engines for the roll-out.

This year’s special guest driver for the Mustang Ford lead car is Roxanne Potvin-Allard, who has met and beaten her cancer nemesis. By the time her car comes back from its publi- city tour, the special protective outer skin of the car should be covered with the signatures of supporters of breast cancer research, who each paid five dollars for the privilege of putting their name on the car.

The Mustang Ford Rally car will be on another publicity tour over the next couple of weeks leading up to Rally Day, with appearances at local Caisse populaires, other supporting businesses, and several special community events throughout Prescott-Russell.
