Time to rumble in Rockland
Wrestling fans in Prescott-Russell need to mark their calendars. Great North Wrestling hosts an Afternoon of Championss at the Jean-Marc Arena in Rockland on Nov. 5 with two World Wrestling Entertainment legends stepping into the ring as part of the card of bouts which includes three title matches to wrap up the season for the GNW schedule.
The Sunday weekend event features WWE alumnus Savio Vega challenging GNW Canadian Heavyweight Champion Hannibal for his title. Hannibal is fresh from a title defence against Gangrel, another former star of the U.S.-based WWE. Vega, founder and leader of Puerto Rico’s famed Los Boricuas (Barracudas) stable of wrestlers, fought in both the WWE and the International Wrestling Association’s circuits and has become a cultural icon for his fellow Puerto Ricans and Latin American wrestlers and fans.
Also on the card and putting her GNW Women’s Champion title on the line is Lady Yasmine in a three-way Triangle Match featuring her versus Tessa Blanchard versus Ailani Iolana.
Lady Yasmine and Iolana have unfinished business between them after a Sept. 30 title match in Napanee finished with Yasmine retaining her title on a count-out.
Tessa Blanchard is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Tully Blanchard and the grand- Lady Yasmine détient son titre féminin de Great North Wrestling (GNW) à la suite de sa victoire au match de championnat d’Ottawa en août de cette année. The third title match of the day features a 30-man over-the-top-rope Battle Royale for the crowning of the first GNW World Television Champion. The battle card includes three-time WWE Tag Team Champion Pierre «Québecer » Carl Oullet, two-time Canadian champion Jeremy Prophet, and former Impact Wrestling star Wes Brisco, along with the GNW tag team Freak Nation. The event goes on tape for later rebroadcast Canada-wide on Channel Z as Les Enrager du Ring and also on GNW’s The Hannibal TV YouTube channel. Savio Vega, Puerto Rican wrestling legend, steps into the ring Nov. 5 in Rockland against Great North Wrestling champaion, Hannibal, in a title bout.
