A tough week for the Rockland Nationals

The Rockland Nationals Junior A team recorded a tough week– losing all three of their games last week.

The Nats fell to the Ottawa Junior Senators on Wednesday, October 25 during an away game, losing 5-4. Drew Shields, Mathieu Blanchette, Cole Lavoie and Trevor Coykendall each picked up a goal during the match. Coykendall was the only Nats player to earn a star, named second star of the game for his one goal and one assist.

Things took another turn for the worst when the Nats were defeated in what was a shutout win for the Hawkesbury Hawks. The Hawks defeated the Nats 6-0 on Saturday, October 28. Nats goaltender Sean Storr was pushed to the limit, receiving 47 shots on nets and stopping 41 of them. L’équipe terminera la semaine contre les Bears de Smiths Falls, le dimanche 5 novembre. 34 shots at Hawks goalie Matthew Petizian but were unsuccessf­ul, giving Petizian a perfect match.

The Nats lost 2-1 to the Navan Grads the next day, on Sunday October 29, in what was a more evenly matched game. Mathieu Blanchette scored the sole goal for the Rockland Nats, earning him the third star of the game. Captain Zachary Salloum and Seth Carter of the Grads received the second and first star of the game, respective­ly.

The three consecutiv­e losses leave the Nats record at (11-9-1-1). Will the Nats be able to turn things around? The team hits the ice again on Thursday, November 2, against the Cornwall Colts, and will play at home against the Carleton Place Canadians the following day. The team will end the week against the Smiths Falls Bears on Sunday, November 5.
