Major Peewee team crushes it in Burlington

The Crush Major Peewee team won Gold at the Gobble, Gobble Cup in Burlington, Vermont, during the weekend of November 24 to the 26 – dedicating this tournament to one of the boys’ mom, who has undergone breast cancer surgery.

The team played with pink tape wrapped around their sticks and breast cancer stickers on their helmets during the tournament, to show their support and solidarity. After tying their first game and losing their second, the Crush Peewee team came out strong in their third game, winning 5-1 to qualify for the final, which was held on, Sunday, November 26.

The first game was a tie 2-2 against the Triboro Titans from Massachuse­tts. The Crush struggled the most with the Woonsocket North Stars from Rhode Island, losing the game 4-1. The team then came out strong during their next game – crushing the home team from Burlington 5-1 in the game that would qualify them for the finals.

The championsh­ip game was a sweet victory – having to take on the team that fed them a 4-1 loss, the North Stars. The Crush were losing the game 2-0 at the end of the first period, but dominated the second period by scoring four goals. The final score was 4-3 in favor of the Crush, earning them the gold medal.

Crush’s Tristan Simoneau was also named MVP of the tournament. The team consists of boys from all over Clarence-Rockland, the Prescott-Russell region and five players from Hawkesbury. The Crush will compete in their next tournament – the Annual Rep B Jacques ‘Coco’ Lemay Tournament – at the CIH Arena in Rockland, from December 8 to 10.

Le tournoi était consacré à l’une des mères des garçons, qui a subi une chirurgie du cancer du sein.
