Rockland Food Bank gives out some holiday help
On Tuesday, December 19, many families and volunteers gathered at Club Powers in Rockland for the Food Bank’s Rockland Christmas hampers, where food vouchers and gifts were given to families. Volunteers from the Rockland Help Centre, Family Radio CHRI 99.1 and many other community organisations were present.
The Rockland Help Centre held its annual event, handing out Christmas food vouchers and gifts to families that are signed up for the Rockland Food Bank.
On Tuesday, December 19, many families and volunteers gathered at Club Powers in Rockland for the Food Bank’s final event of the year – the Rockland Christmas hampers. The Food Bank presently has over 250 families signed up and Christmas is the time to distribute food vouchers, Christmas gifts and children’s clothing to such families.
Many community groups and organizations, as well as individual donors, contribute to the Rockland Food Bank’s Christmas hampers event. Family Radio CHRI 99.1 FM and its sponsor J.D Swallow Heating and Cooling, for the fourth year, have collected almost 8000 pairs of children’s pajamas, which they distribute to 16 rural food banks, shelters and homes. This includes 200 pairs of pajamas for the Rockland Food Bank’s distribution in which all the pajamas meet the specific age and size requirements for the Rockland children. The Saint-Trinité

artisanal club also participates in preparing sets of hats, gloves and neck warmers to give out.
Jean Coutu Rockland also donated 200 capons, while Tim Hortons presented a cheque of the profits made from the Smile Cookie initiative. Santa Claus was also present throughout the morning of the event to greet and take pictures with the children.
