BIDS ARE NOW OPEN FOR NEW FIRE STATIONS CONTRACT
The bidding process is now underway for the new fire stations set to be built in Rockland and in Bourget.
Now that city council has approved the budgets for the design and construction of the new stations in Rockland and in Bourget, the bidding process is underway. Colliers Project Leaders was brought on as project manager and is working with the municipal staff on the project.
The bidding is now open to contractors for the design and build portion of the project. The City has pre-qualified six potential bidders. The open bidding tender will most likely remain open until the end of March, with evaluations of each bid beginning straightaway. City staff expect to have a report prepared for council by the end of March or early April in order to choose the winning bidder for the project.
Once the design-build contractor is chosen, construction should start almost immediately. The City is anticipating the Bourget fire station to be completed first, by early to mid 2019. The Rockland station is expected to be finished a couple months after that, since its construction is a twostep process, having to first renovate the existing building.
Council approved a budget for $3.5 million, plus a 10 per cent contingency, for the construction of the fire station in Rockland. This, along with a budget of approximately $2.1 million for the construction of a paramedic station to be conjoined with the fire station, results in a total budget of $5.96 million for the Rockland project. In Bourget, the total budget amounts to about $3.57 million – $3 million for the fire station and approximately $570,000 for the paramedic station.
