Russia facing ban as doping scandal spreads

Russian parathletes hoping to compete in this summer’s Paralympics in Rio got some bad news Friday when officials moved to ban the country from the Games amid Russia’s ongoing doping crisis. The news comes a day after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the Rio Olympic ban on Russia’s track and field teams in connection to a multiyear, systematic doping program known by the government. “This decision was not taken lightly,” International Paralympic Committee president Sir Philip Craven said in a statement.
