East Asian festival, zombie walk on tap this weekend

- Anam Latif, Record staff

Join a zombie walk, plant trees or taste East Asian cuisine this weekend. There are lots of activities to choose from. Here’s a short list:

Celebrate East Asian cultures at Renison University College in Waterloo Saturday. The 22nd annual East Asian Festival will feature musical performances and food as well as calligraphy and interactive booths to learn more about featured countries. The festival raises money for Renison’s East Asian Studies program.

Spend Saturday morning planting trees at the University of Waterloo Environmental Reserve around Westmount Sports Park. Join the Laurel Creek Citizens Working Group as it plants 500 native trees and shrubs. Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and anyone under 18 years old must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

Learn all about the First World War at Waterloo Region Museum Sunday for World War Public Education Day. There will be demonstrations, talks and music at this interactive, handson event. Regular museum admission applies.

KW Darkcon is bringing all things horror to Kitchener City Hall on Saturday. The horrorthemed convention will feature scary exhibits, vendors and a zombie walk. The free event runs from noon to 6 p.m. For information, see the website at www.darkcon.ca.
