Palin understands

-

Re: No welcome mat — Feb. 14

So letter writer Chuck Thompson, along with a number of NDP MPs, feels it would be a shame and an insult if Sarah Palin was appointed as U.S. ambassador to Canada. He ends his letter saying that “she’s the source of material for American comedy shows and that’s how many of us recognize her.”

I would suggest that Chuck and his ilk might remove themselves from in front of their TVs and delve into Sarah’s background and qualifications before announcing their profound evaluation of her. Sarah Palin is an educated and articulate woman. She is a wife, a mother and a grandmother. As the governor of the State of Alaska for a number of years, she worked very closely and amicably with her two nearest neighbours, British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. She understands the north and the problems of being isolated. She also understands the problems of rural and indigenous peoples. These understandings and along with her being from the north, in my opinion, would make her a good fit as ambassador to Canada.

Maybe Chuck and those NDP voices would rather have someone from the bayous of Louisiana who may think Canadians all live in igloos and skate 12 months of the year as ambassador. Al Hyatt Waterloo
