Winter festivals and fundraisers this weekend
WATERLOO REGION — It may be warm this weekend but take the opportunity to enjoy winterthemed festivals, carnivals and fundraisers, anyway. You probably won’t need a hat.
Here’s a short list of what to do this weekend:
Join Wilmot residents as they celebrate 25 years of the New Hamburg conservation district. Learn about the area’s rich history on Wilmot Heritage Day, enjoy the food and meet other enthusiasts at the free event Saturday.
It’s time again for Winterloo this weekend, but some of the wintery events have been cancelled due to warm weather, such as ice dogs, snow sculpture and the ice slide. The rink in Waterloo Public Square is also closed. You can still enjoy other events in uptown Waterloo all weekend such as yoga, children’s activities, food trucks and scavenger hunts. To check out a full schedule, visit the website at www.waterloo.ca/en/living/Program.asp.
The King East Neighbourhood Association is hosting its second annual winter carnival on Duke Street Sunday. The free event will feature a bouncy castle, street hockey, children’s activities, winter treats and more. It’s also a giant community potluck so everyone is asked to bring food. For more information, visit the website at www.kingeastneighbourhood.ca/winter-carnival-2017.
Ray of Hope will host its seventh annual Coldest Night of the Year walk on Saturday to raise money for the homeless in Kitchener. If you’re in Cambridge, take part in the Urban Hope Ministries Coldest Night of the Year walk. Registration for both walks begins at 4 p.m. For more information on both walks, visit the website at www.cnoy.org.
