Jays lose to Yanks, Phillies, Braves

The Toronto Blue Jays dropped a pair of major-league baseball exhibition split-squad games Sunday, falling 7-2 to the New York Yankees and 10-3 to the Philadelph­ia Phillies.

At Dunedin, Andres Blanco went deep and Nick Williams drove in two runs for the Phillies.

Jose Bautista looked good going 2-for-3, including a double in the first, and Kendrys Morales went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two runs batted in for Toronto, which committed three errors.

Ben Lively picked up the win for Philadelph­ia, while Justin Shafer took the loss for Toronto.

Jays starter Joe Biagini gave up two hits and a walk and struck out three over 1 2/3 innings.

At Tampa, Starlin Castro hit a three-run homer and Billy McKinney added a two-run shot to power the Yankees’ offence.

Luis Severino picked up the win for New York.

Jarrod Saltalamac­chia had a two-run homer for the Blue Jays. Brett Oberholtze­r surrendere­d three earned runs over two innings and took the loss for Toronto.

Atlanta 7, Toronto 4 LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. —

Former Blue Jay Emilio Bonifacio was 2 for 2 and drove in two runs to help the Atlanta Braves beat Toronto, 7-4, on Saturday in the Grapefruit League opener for both teams.

Anthony Recker also drove in a pair for the Braves.

Jace Peterson, Adonis Garcia and Tyler Flowers had the other RBI’s.

Blaine Boyer got the win after 1 2/3 innings of relief. Bartolo Colon started for Atlanta, allowing one run on three hits with a strikeout in two innings in his Braves debut.

Glenn Sparkman, the Blue Jays’ pick in December’s Rule 5 draft, took the loss. He allowed four runs on four hits through an inning of work.

Anthony Alford, Reese McGuire, Dwight Smith and Jake Elmore, who went 3 for 3, drove in runs for Toronto.
