KITCHENER — Help is on the way for the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans.

The expansion National Basketball League of Canada team has acquired a guard and a forward to help augment its depleted lineup.

Former London Lightning guard Ed Horton, of Shreveport, La., and Canadian forward Anthony Ottley Jr. have joined the Titans, the team announced Monday.

Horton, who graduated from Kentucky’s Murray State University in 2007, played for Titans general manager Stu Julius last season when Julius was a member of the Lightning’s coaching staff.

“We’re very excited to have the opportunity to sign a player of Ed Horton’s calibre and toughness,” Julius said in a release. “(Horton’s) leadership abilities and veteran experience played an integral part in the Lightning reaching Game 7 of the NBL Canada championship (last year).”

Ottley, a six-foot-six Toronto native, was most recently a member of the NBLC’s Niagara River Lions. He played for Red Deer College last season.

Horton and Ottley Jr. will assume the roster spots vacated by Tramique Sutherland and Kevin Foster, released by the Titans after their part in an on-court brawl last month in Saint John, N.B.

The Titans visit Niagara on Tuesday for a rare 11 a.m. game against the River Lions before returning home for Saturday’s contest when they entertain the Orangeville A’s. Tipoff at the Aud is 7 p.m. K-W also plays host to Niagara on Sunday, a 2 p.m. start at the Aud.
