CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Flenard Whitfield scored a gameleading 21 points and hauled in game-best 14 rebounds to pace his Kitchener-Waterloo Titans to a 114-93 decision over the PEI Island Storm in National Basketball League of Canada action.

Friday night’s game also saw the Titans race to a 33-22 lead after the first quarter. The visitors only surrendered the lead three times through the night en route to the victory.

Adam Blazek scored 19 points for the visitors and added 10 assists. K-W also got 15 points from Tramar Sutherland and 13 from Canadian rookie Tyrone Dickson.

The sharpshooting Titans connected on 50 per cent of their shots from the field, including a commendable 48 per cent from three-point range.

“Our shooting was good. But it was how we got those points that pleases me more,” said Titans coach Serge Langis whose club out-rebounded its opponents 57-47.

“We moved the ball and the trust factor was evident. The guys figured that out for one night,” he said.

K-W’s inside game was lights out as the visitors erupted for 56 points in the paint to PEI’s 36.

Up next for the Titans is a date with the Atlantic Division-leading and home-court Halifax Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon.

“Nobody will make the mistake of falling in love with what they saw (Friday),” said Langis. “It’s about consistency and now is the time for us to make something happen.”

Friday’s win improves the Titans’ league record to 14-19 (wonlost), while PEI falls to 12-17.

“Everybody contributed,” said Langis of Friday’s contest. “And everybody checked their egos at the door.”

The Titans are back on homecourt at the Kitchener Aud on April 15 and April 16 when they entertain the Saint John Riptide and the London Lightning, respectively.
