Titans make it two wins in a row
HALIFAX — Flenard Whitfield was the man of the match for the second straight game as he deposited a game-high 30 points and collected 13 rebounds for the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans in Sunday’s 97-84 win over the Halifax Hurricanes.
The National Basketball League of Canada team handed the division-leading Hurricanes just their ninth loss in 33 games this season.
Adam Blazek and Tramar Sutherland had 13 points each for K-W, while Jason Calliste added 11.
Sunday’s victory marks the Titans’ second in as many games and gives the visitors two wins out of three appearances through their final Eastern Canada road swing of the regular season.
“It was a big win, a confidence booster. It was all kinds of things,” said Titans coach Serge Langis. “The big thing for me was our consistent play. We put two games together in a row.
“It doesn’t matter who we play. It is a matter of imposing our game plan on other teams.”
Billy White paced the hosts with 22 points and nine boards, while his Halifax teammate Tyrone Watson scored 18 points in a losing effort.
Third-place K-W got off to a rare blistering start, leading 30-14 after one quarter.
The Titans brought their 15th victory home by outscoring the Hurricanes 27-20 in the final frame.
Next up for K-W is a weekend doubleheader at the Aud, first with the Saint John Riptide on Saturday at 7 p.m., then the Titans entertain the Central Division-leading London Lightning on Sunday at 2 p.m.
