Police continue search for murder suspect
WATERLOO REGION — Waterloo Regional Police say the search continues for Ager Mohsin Hasan, the 24-year-old Hamilton man who faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with Melinda Vasilije’s stabbing death.
Police say the man fled to the United States a week ago, hours after Vasilije, 22, was found dead.
“We are continuing to connect with our U.S. (law enforcement) partners, and we urge Mr. Hasan to turn himself in,” Insp. Mike Haffner said Thursday.
Vasilije was stabbed multiple times and found inside her apartment at 38 Country Hill Dr. at about 3 a.m. last Friday morning.
Hasan’s last known reported whereabouts were in Erie County, Penn., on April 29 where a man matching his description was seen switching licence plates in a Walmart parking lot.
He has not been seen by law enforcement since.
Police say Hasan was in contact with Vasilije that night. The two had been in a relationship for about a year, police said.
Hasan had been ordered to not enter Waterloo Region and not make contact with Vasilije after he was charged with an alleged break-and-enter and two alleged assaults at her Country Hill Drive apartment on April 3, Haffner said.
In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Hasan has also been charged with three counts of breach of recognizance as part of a Canada-wide warrant.
The latter charges stem from the “domestic-related incident” in early April, Haffner said, adding that Vasilije was not a victim to the alleged assaults.
Police believe Hasan is in the U.S. because a vehicle matching the description of Ager’s 2016 black Honda HR-V was photographed crossing the U.S. border at the Peace Bridge just before 6 a.m. on April 29.
Hasan’s last known sighting by police was at a Walmart parking lot in Erie County just after 10 a.m. that same day.
In video footage, a man was seen removing a Pennsylvania state licence plate from a parked
