Home Builders to award area students
The Waterloo Region Home Builders’ Association (WRHBA) is honoured to recognize Noah Loveday from St. Mary’s High School as this year’s winner of its High School Design Award Competition.
Runners-up are Andres Montes from Monsignor Doyle C.S.S. and Bret Brinston from St. Mary’s High School.
WRHBA gratefully acknowledges teachers Robert Meissner of St. Mary’s High School and Greg Cinti of Monsignor Doyle C.S.S. for encouraging students to participate in the annual design competition, and for assisting the students in the process. They were a tremendous resource for the students from start to finish including ensuring that all of the entries were submitted on time.
The WRHBA has proudly offered this award program to Waterloo Region students over the course of several decades. The competition was established as an educational and community-based program to inspire high school students and their teachers to participate in the creation of designing a home. The competition is open to all students in grades 10 through 12 currently enrolled at all High Schools within Waterloo Region; including the Catholic, Public, and Private School Boards.
The task given to entrants is to design a realistic home according to a particular demographic and type. Students are then judged on Overall Exterior and Interior Appeal; Creative Use of Space; Functionality of Floor Plan; Overall Appeal to Target Market; Energy Efficiency and Use of Building Forms and Materials
WRHBA stakeholders judged the entries, and this fall, the winner, finalists, their families, and their teachers will be invited to attend an Association Dinner Meeting to receive their prizes.
