WATERLOO REGION — A person claiming to be on-the-run murder suspect Ager Mohsin Hasan has posted a social media message that appears to hint he will turn himself in.

Hasan, 24, is wanted in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Melinda Vasilije, of Kitchener, in April.

The Instagram post appeared on Monday. The message posted alongside a photo reads: I’m coming home. It’s time to end the dark path I’ve been travelling and give people the closure they deserve.”

Hasan of Hamilton faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with Vasilije’s death. She was found stabbed in her Country Hill Drive apartment in the early morning hours of April 28.

Waterloo Regional Police say Hasan has been on the run south of the border since.

Police have said they’ve been in ongoing contact with Hasan, although sporadically, through email. They have repeatedly asked Hasan to turn himself in to local law enforcement.

Local police have worked with U.S. law enforcement agencies to get Hasan’s image and description out across social media platforms.

He was last spotted in Tennessee in May.

This isn’t the first time a man claiming to be Hasan has posted images and messages on social media. Three posts appeared on Instagram. One of them read: “I regret everything negative I ever did to you.”

The month before that, a post on Reddit written by someone claiming to be Hasan alleged that Hasan stabbed Vasilije in self-defence. It went into details about what allegedly happened the night Vasilije died. That message was removed shortly after it was posted.

Vasilije’s family and friends marked what would have been her 23rd birthday almost two weeks ago. A messaged posted on Facebook Tuesday by a woman who appears to be Vasilije’s mother read: “I’m in so much pain that doesn’t go away. I hope he turns himself in.”

A Facebook page called Justice for Melinda frequently shares pleas to the public to share information about Hasan.

Police ask anyone who is in contact with Hasan to encourage him to turn himself in to police in the U.S. Or call local police at 519-653-7700, ext. 8666.
